Carl Chester Crist, Union County Leader, June 3, 1998 Carl Chester Crist, age 76, died Thursday, May 28, 1998, in Amarillo, Texas. Services were held Saturday, May 30, 1998 at 10:00 a.m. CST, at Valley View Church of The Nazarene, 7601 S. Western, Amarillo, Texas, with Reverend Wayne Hicks, pastor, officiating. Graveside services were held at 3:00 p.m. MST Saturday, May 30, 1998 in the Clayton Memorial Cemetery. Carl was born on September 8, 1921 in Booker, Texas, to Chester Crist and Ruth (Cordell) Crist. He married Vada R. Weese in 1946, in Clayton, New Mexico. A lifelong resident of Union County, New Mexico, Carl and Vada moved to Amarillo, Texas in 1989. Carl was in the U.S. Army from 1942 until 1945, where he served in Europe during WWII (Normandy, Northern France, Ardennis, Rhineland, and Central Europe). He received the European African Middle Western Victory Medal. Carl was a member of Valley View Church of the Nazarene in Amarillo, Texas, and a past member of the American Legion of Grenville, Union County, New Mexico. Carl is survived by his wife, Vada R. Crist of the home in Amarillo, Texas; four sons, Clay Crist and Larry Crist, both of Ft. Sumner, New Mexico, Lance Crist of Canyon, Texas and Jeff Crist of Clovis, New Mexico; four daughters, Janet Manzer and Carol Hartsfield and Kimberly Crist, all of Amarillo, Texas and Carla Spitz of Lamar, Colorado; four sisters, Vivian Nieman of Utah, Minnie Lambert, Doris Malone, and Naomi Andrews, all of Farmington, New Mexico; 21 grandchildren and 21 great- grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Crown of Texas Hospice.
